Spooktalkular Episode 027

We have what could be considered for some a treat but yet for others Hell on Earth.  This week, we are doing a test run at a live show.  What we mean is we’re not going to edit this week’s show but instead, record it in one take.  I cringed hard and fought the urge to fire up Audacity and start cutting but we have to get used to it because when you’re live, there’s no retake.

With that said, a good episode.  We start off with a quick reminder.  If you’d like a chance to win a signed copy of one of M.R. Sellars first three books be sure to send an email to show at spooktalkular.com before the next Friday with the subject of “I Like Free Books”.  On next week’s show we’ll announce the winners.

We take a peek at the new Peter Jackson film ‘District 9′ due out on August 14th.  Cool trailer to listen to but even cooler to watch.  You can check it out on the movies home page.  Laura takes us into some Haunted Headlines for some interesting tidbits.  From there, we visit Classic Cinema for a look back at the 1980 film ‘The Fog‘.

Heading into television, we take a look at ‘Monster Quest’, a great episode of ‘Ghost Adventures’, ‘Ghost Hunters International’ and what will be our last visit to ‘The Listener’ since NBC has pulled the plug on it.

All in all, great episode.  Next week, interviews return.

This week’s Independent Music break is a great band out of Canada ‘The Wakening‘ with the cool song ‘Losing Control’!  As always, we are proud to feature Independent bands and we urge everyone to be sure to support Independent Music.

Thanks for listening and see ya next week!

Spooktalkular Episode 026

Wow, what an episode.  It’s our longest to date, clocking in at a little over two and a half hours.  Spooky news is no more.  Listen to see what the replacement is.  ;)  For Classic Cinema this week, we take a look back at the groundbreaking independent picture ‘The Blair Witch Project’ which hits it’s ten year anniversary this month.  It’s hard to believe that it has been ten years!
We have an incredible treat for television this week.  We start off with discussions on ‘The Listener’ and ‘Ghost Hunters International’ then we head into a cool episode of ‘Ghost Adventures’ who are in Savanah Georgia’s own Moon River Brewing Company.  We have a bonus little treat this week for ‘Ghost Adventures’, we are pleased to share an incredible interview that we did with Nick Groff from the team.  Nick actually gives us some insight into the episode.
That in itself would make for an awesome show but since we had missed the ‘Harper’s Island’ finale discussion last week, we dedicate over an hour alone to discussing the last three episodes including some audio and another awesome interview from ‘Harper’s Island’s’ own Sheriff Mills, the incredibly talented actor Jim Beaver.
We figured one week of music from ‘the Devil Himself’ wasn’t enough so we’re proud to feature them again this week with another incredible track named ‘Bulletproof’.  As always, be sure to support independent music!
So, do you see why it was such a long episode now?  ;)  Seriously, it was a blast so we hope you enjoy it!

Spooktalkular Episode 025

Well, Episode 25 is quite a bit delayed but on next weeks show, you will find out why AND, you will agree it was well worth the delay.  This week though, Spooktalkular turns one year old and we are celebrating.  We reflect on the first year and hop in the wayback machine to visit the very first show.  Have we ever changed….

As part of our reflection, we thank a great deal of the fine folks who have helped us over the past year.  We have had so much help, it’s possible that we missed some people.  If we missed you, we assure you it wasn’t intentional.  The most important people to Spooktalkular are the incredible listeners.  We thank you for your time, we know it’s valuable so the fact you give up your time to listen to what we do touches us greatly every week.  Thank you!

We do briefly cover new shows this week from ‘MonsterQuest’, ‘Ghost Adventures’ and ‘The Listener’.  It was also the season two premier of ‘Ghost Hunters International’ so we give them a quick visit as well.

This weeks Independent Music Break features a band out of Santa Cruz, California named the Devil Himself.  Head over to http://www.myspace.com/devilhimselfmusic and check them out!  The song is ‘Deserted’ and it rocks!

You often hear us talk about the fine group of people that are behind the effort to have a ‘Millennium’ movie made.  James and Troy from backtofrankblack.com and the ‘Millennium Group Sessions’ podcast stop by to wish us Happy Birthday.  It’s really a great time.

Okay, I can’t make you wait until next week.  I’m just not that mean.  The reason for the delay was a couple of last minute interviews that will be in next weeks show.  To tie in with our ‘Harper’s Island’ wrap up next week, we have a special treat.  Jim Beaver who played Sheriff Charlie Mills was great enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to chat with us.  Now, if that’s not enough, we will also have an great interview from one of the Travel Channel’s hosts and investigators of ‘Ghost Adventures’, the incredible Nick Groff.  See, I told you that you’d agree that the delay was worth it.

Spooktalkular Episode 024

Laura and I had a blast recording this one.  We start out with a funny little bit dedicated to the great folks James and Troy over at backtofrankblack.com and the Millennium Group Sessions podcast.  During our brief discussion of their latest episode, we failed to mention that it contained an interview with Michael Buie in addition to M.R. Sellars.

We take a quick look at the Pseudopod Podcast that I discovered this week.  If you like horror, be sure to check it out.

This week is the premier of the new series “Warehouse 13″ and the return of the series “Ghost Hunters: International” for another season.  We also talk about the SciFi channels name change to Syfy.  Yea, I know, I misspelled it during the show.  Let’s just say that we think the name change sucks no matter how it is spelled.

Forums are back online and getting used.  Check them out at http://forums.spooktalkular.com and get in on the discussions.  Be sure to introduce yourself and let’s get the forums active.  We’re getting ready to bring up a new area of the site.  Laura’s decided to start a blog so look for that soon!

We’re still working on getting stuff together for the Mothman Festival on September 19th and 20th.  We’re going to build a teardrop camper to take up with us this year.

Our independent music break this week features the band Early April and thier song “When the Sky Falls” from their freely availible album.  Check out their homepage and download a copy today.

Whew, that’s a lot but there is still lots more to go.  When we return from the break, we give details on how you can win a signed copy of one of M.R. Sellars first three books.  No cheating, you’ve got to listen for details.

Classic Cinema this week covers the 1987 hit horror film “Hellraiser” that brought us Pinhead. TV wasn’t too kind this week as it was a little thin.  Our discussions were limited to “The Listener” and “Ghost Adventures”.

Finally as a treat, hang around after the outro runs and listen to bloopers that we caused while trying to get the M.R. Sellars giveaway recorded right.  It really was a blast.

Spooktalkular Episode 023

We’ve got a little change this episode, we don’t have an interview.  What we do have are discussions on two episodes of “MonsterQuest”, “Ghost Adventures” and a very spirited discussion on the last two episodes of “Harper’s Island”.  This week we take a look at the 1960 film “Psycho” in Classic Cinema.  If you listened to last weeks episode, you’ll know why.  ;)

During our Independent Music Break, we listen to “Century’s Out” from the band that James McLean from backtofrankblack.com was once a part of.

The fabulous writer M.R. “Murv” Sellars was good enough to send us some signed copies of his first three books.  Listen next week for details on how you can make one of them yours.
