Spooktalkular Episode 025
Well, Episode 25 is quite a bit delayed but on next weeks show, you will find out why AND, you will agree it was well worth the delay. This week though, Spooktalkular turns one year old and we are celebrating. We reflect on the first year and hop in the wayback machine to visit the very first show. Have we ever changed….
As part of our reflection, we thank a great deal of the fine folks who have helped us over the past year. We have had so much help, it’s possible that we missed some people. If we missed you, we assure you it wasn’t intentional. The most important people to Spooktalkular are the incredible listeners. We thank you for your time, we know it’s valuable so the fact you give up your time to listen to what we do touches us greatly every week. Thank you!
We do briefly cover new shows this week from ‘MonsterQuest’, ‘Ghost Adventures’ and ‘The Listener’. It was also the season two premier of ‘Ghost Hunters International’ so we give them a quick visit as well.
This weeks Independent Music Break features a band out of Santa Cruz, California named the Devil Himself. Head over to http://www.myspace.com/devilhimselfmusic and check them out! The song is ‘Deserted’ and it rocks!
You often hear us talk about the fine group of people that are behind the effort to have a ‘Millennium’ movie made. James and Troy from backtofrankblack.com and the ‘Millennium Group Sessions’ podcast stop by to wish us Happy Birthday. It’s really a great time.
Okay, I can’t make you wait until next week. I’m just not that mean. The reason for the delay was a couple of last minute interviews that will be in next weeks show. To tie in with our ‘Harper’s Island’ wrap up next week, we have a special treat. Jim Beaver who played Sheriff Charlie Mills was great enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to chat with us. Now, if that’s not enough, we will also have an great interview from one of the Travel Channel’s hosts and investigators of ‘Ghost Adventures’, the incredible Nick Groff. See, I told you that you’d agree that the delay was worth it.

Hi Frank and Laura.
I’ve known about you since I heard about you from backtofrankblack.com. I’ve not listened to your podcasts, outside of that interview with Troy and James, ep. 18? And this one as well, which was very funny indeed. Thanks for that, a lovely listen.
I’ve heard enough to know that it’s very easy to listen to you guys. I even kept on listening to that turkey story for the Thanksgiving episode (while I was listening for all things backtofrankblack.com in your podcasts so far).
I see that you took a look at Hellraiser, and I’ll probably listen to that now, since I recently bought the 20th Anniversary DVD myself and watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. And I was very impressed by it and it’s so amazing how bad the reviews it got. Roger Ebert, you just never know what he’s gonna do. Thumbs up or down, there’s no way of telling.
I’ll keep a better eye on your podcasts and see if there isn’t something I like to hear what you think about a particular show/film.
And the difference between the first episode and this one is staggering. Is the sound quality due to the studio mike and pop filter? Or did you have that all along? I really should get me one…
Cheers from Iceland!
Don’t be dark!

Thank you so much for your kind comments. We’re really glad you liked our one year show. It was a blast to look back over the past year and reminisce about the growth we’ve experienced. I had forgot about the Turkey show back on Thanksgiving! Looking back, that was funny! It stunk when I did it though, lol
The difference in the first and most recent show is indeed due to a studio mic. When we did the first show, I had a studio mic but no pop filter. Laura used a headset mic if I recall correctly. We had originally gotten the gear so that I could do a podcast on NASCAR racing so we didn’t really need the second mic. After we completed the first show or two, we immediately ordered a studio mic along with boom stands for both of us. Well, sound still wasn’t where we wanted so I was reading about pop filters so we ran to Radio Shack right before recording one of those early episodes and picked up two foam covers for our mics. That’s been pretty much the setup ever since. I would like to go a little higher end on the mics but they are working fine for now I think.
Thanks again for sticking with us!
Frank
Enjoyable podcast again. The humour between you two is very witty.
Just listened to the rest of the podcast. Absolutely hilarious. Loved the banter between you two and Jim and Troy.
Jim and Troy are without a doubt, our best podcast buddies. It’s a blast anytime we have them on. Even when we just talk, with all four of us together, it’s the same way. Great guys!
