Spooktalkular Episode 027

We have what could be considered for some a treat but yet for others Hell on Earth.  This week, we are doing a test run at a live show.  What we mean is we’re not going to edit this week’s show but instead, record it in one take.  I cringed hard and fought the urge to fire up Audacity and start cutting but we have to get used to it because when you’re live, there’s no retake.

With that said, a good episode.  We start off with a quick reminder.  If you’d like a chance to win a signed copy of one of M.R. Sellars first three books be sure to send an email to show at spooktalkular.com before the next Friday with the subject of “I Like Free Books”.  On next week’s show we’ll announce the winners.

We take a peek at the new Peter Jackson film ‘District 9′ due out on August 14th.  Cool trailer to listen to but even cooler to watch.  You can check it out on the movies home page.  Laura takes us into some Haunted Headlines for some interesting tidbits.  From there, we visit Classic Cinema for a look back at the 1980 film ‘The Fog‘.

Heading into television, we take a look at ‘Monster Quest’, a great episode of ‘Ghost Adventures’, ‘Ghost Hunters International’ and what will be our last visit to ‘The Listener’ since NBC has pulled the plug on it.

All in all, great episode.  Next week, interviews return.

This week’s Independent Music break is a great band out of Canada ‘The Wakening‘ with the cool song ‘Losing Control’!  As always, we are proud to feature Independent bands and we urge everyone to be sure to support Independent Music.

Thanks for listening and see ya next week!

Correction: Thanks to TL Foreman for pointing out that ‘District 9′ wasn’t directed by Peter Jackson. It was only produced by Peter Jackson. The director was newcomer Neill Blomkamp. It looks like a grab at giving Jackson a producer credit and pumping it up to draw attention. Still looks good though. ;) Thanks Troy!

  • Hey Frank and Laura!
I’m stopping by to inform you all that there IS a way to release a true “live” version of your podcast. It’s usually done as an .asx file but let me see if I can locate the code in my vast catacombs of code to see if I can find it. I also happen to work with a company called Synablast Studios and we’re looking to do this live version too, but it may need you to puchase a splitter so that you can record and produce live. Anyway, still highly enjoying the show.

    Slaintè!

  • Hey, I’m back. I found a website (I’m at work) that I think could help with your “live” efforts. With this method you can produce live audio OR live video, plus you can support recorded files. The website is this:

    http://www.cs.odu.edu/~cs778/spring04/lectures/jmfsolutions/examplesindex.html#transmitboth

I hope this helps you guys out. If you’re looking to do both, I’d highly suggest using the same format as “The T and F Show,” a collaboration between my friend Frank Celona and I as part of the Synablast Studios (synablaststudios.com) internet multimedia efforts, and just use blogtv.com. It’s free to sign-up, plus you can have viewers sign-up and watch via blogtv.com and chat with you during your sessions.

However, if you’re both looking to just stick with “live audio” the former route may be best.

    Best Wishes.

  • Wave_Crest:

Saw District 9 last week. It’s not one of my favourite films of the year but it was a lot better than other bigger budget films.

Still not seen the original Fog film in full yet.
