Spooktalkular Episode 037
Another awesome love show! We had a blast chatting with the Spookchattie’s tonight. Another name has been proposed… The Spooky Groupies. I like em both. We intro the Spooktalkular YouTube channel. So far, only the Mothman Hayride video from us… But look for more. We also talk about our format change of moving towards more serious paranormal topics.
Where to start, it was a busy episode. We started out with a cool interview with Alex Price who played Gilbert on the hit BBC series ‘Being Human‘.
From there, we head into our television coverage with a surprising newcomer this week, ‘South Park’ and the episode ‘Dead Celebrities‘ where our paraplumbers Jay and Grant get parodied in awesome form. You really know you’ve arrived when you’re spoofed on ‘South Park’! From there, we hit into ‘Ghost Hunters’, ‘Destination Truth’ and ‘Mystery Quest’. We also discuss the new show ‘Ghost Lab’. So far, we agree that we really like the personalities of the brothers but it’s really nothing new as far as format. We’ll discuss it more in the coming weeks.
We also talk about the upcoming ‘Ghost Adventures’ Live event at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum where the ‘Ghost Adventures’ Crew will be spending the night on October 30 starting at 8:00PM ET. Looks awesome!
Our Independent Music Break featured the song ‘Now or Never’ from the band AG Silver! Awesome sound and they seem like great people also. Please support Independent Media of all forms!
We wrap up the show with a recap of ‘Harper’s Island’ episode 11, Splash. The Cal/Chloe death scene is the best in the series! The song used for that scene is ‘Letters From The Sky’ by Civil Twilight. It’s availible for free for a limited time from iTunes.

Just wanted to pop by and congratulate you guys on a wonderful podcast. It is fantastic how much good stuff you guys cram in to the time you have available and I also wanted to thank you for posing my questions to Alex. I am proud that I could contribute to his interview in some way and what an enjoyable interview it was. Both Alex and Laura sounded like they had a great time and a great rapport and it is one I will certainly listen to again and again and add to my little collection of Being Human media.
I must say the changes to the format that you discussed sound intriguing. I am a huge aficionado of all things paranormal and look forward to what the future brings.
Here’s hoping you go from strength to strength and find the time for the odd bit of ‘Being Human’ along the way. You have a podcast to be proud of and I thank you, on behalf of all the team, for being so supportive of BackToFrankBlack and what we are trying to achieve.
This is who we are!
Mark
Phew! Finally I have listened to podcast no.37, after a event-filled week with my computer! A very enjoyable podcast which got better as it went on. The only part I skipped through was the section about the paranormal/ghost hunting shows.
Highlights? The South Park bit. I don’t watch it but have seen bits of it over the years. It used to be shown in the UK on Channel 4, but is now on a few channels at the moment. The clip from the new episode did make me chuckle. What helped, and what I especially enjoyed about last Monday’s new Spooktalkular, were your commentary (the laughs and comments in the background). The world needs laughter and you two provide plenty of laughs over the course of the podcasts!
It’s not him but regarding “Patrick” in the live chat room while podcast no.37 was taking place, it wasn’t Patrick Duffy was it? That’s worth discussing briefly during a podcast, the dream season of Dallas! Btw, you need to watch the short sketch show he’s done with the Crab. Hilarious.
Anyway, going back to what I especially liked about this podcast, your commentary over the sound clips. What I found funny as well was the unintentional comedy moment when Frank got the names wrong during one of the Harper’s Island sound clips, getting Cal mixed up with someone else, and also the laughs during another HI sound clip.
I will go back on what I originally said about episode 11. It was one of the best episodes so far. I felt the part where Wakefield got into the Cannery and the ensuing deaths and fight scene felt cliched. Madison and her mother finding that file of the sheriff’s for Jimmy was a detective drama cliche. However the way it is done must be put into consideration. And the way HI did it was well done.
I was just so wanting Mark’s theory of Wakefield not being the killer to be correct. I was hoping he was using the sniper rifle to protect the surivivors and kill the real murderer. Sadly he is the killer after all and it felt like standard murder drama, when I was hoping for the theory to be true and there would be something special, which is what the previous episodes were looking like they were leading to.
I would still give the episode an 8 out of 10. And that music in the Cal and Chloe scene at the end was great. Unfortunately I can’t find any albums by Civil Twilight on Amazon.
One good thing about the episode was that we didn’t get too many shiny white teeth grins (I’m referring to Henry and Trish)!
Another thing I liked was the effect of the characters having been awake for more then 1 or 2 days (Trish falling asleep in the car with Henry). It’s like an episode of “24″ though, with the characters having had nothing to eat, and most of them having had no sleep.
The highlight of this podcast was the Titanic discussion which I REALLY found funny. BTFB and Spooktalkular are very similar in that there are parts of a podcast which are like a UK comedy sitcom. Instead of George & Mildred we have Jim & Troy and Frank & Laura.
Keep up the good work! And normal service will resume next week (in other words I shall hopefully be able to listen to the next podcast earlier than this one).
You both do a great job. It’s one of the highlights of the week!
