Spooktalkular Episode 033

Another fun live show!  We had a blast with a full house in chat tonight.  Laura shared some ‘Haunted Headlines’ including some awesome information from our friends over at www.backtofrankblack.com.  They have received word of some investor interest in a Millennium Movie!!!  Congrats to our great friends on their hard work.

Laura also detailed another contest of sorts.  We’re inviting our listeners to submit their stories to show@spooktalkular.com for reading on the show.  At the end of October, we’ll have the listeners vote on their favorite and we’ll award a to be determined prize.

We did some quick movies this week.  ‘Last House on the Left‘, ‘The Unborn‘ and for our Classic Cinema, we looked at ‘The Andromeda Strain‘.  We also mentioned a new movie that we just found out about named ‘Transylmania‘.

For TV this week, a quick visit to episodes 3 and 4 from ‘Harper’s Island’ along with ‘Ghost Hunters’ and ‘Destination Truth’ round out the show.

This episode’s Independent Music Break featured the incredible artist, Nyki Lindsay King from Canada with his song ‘Let Up’.

We’ll be at the Mothman Festival this weekend so if you’re going to be there, email us and we’ll meet you to say Hi.

Thanks for listening!!!

Spooktalkular Episode 030

We just finished our first actual live show. We had a few people drop by the chat room while we were on and we all had a blast. Special thanks to Emily, Jake and TLForman for stopping by. Live aside, episode 30 was awesome! We check out the movie ‘Evil Dead‘ for Classic Cinema in preparation for ‘Evil Dead the Musical’. Laura also updates us on ‘Ghost Hunters’, ‘Ghost Hunters International’, ‘Monster Quest’, ‘Ghostly Encounters’ and lastly ‘Psychic Investigators’.

This week, we have another first on Spooktalkular. For our Independent Music Break, we have a great interview with ‘The Lost Souls‘ lead, Gray Gurkin who warmed us up for the award winning song ‘Matchbook’.

We end up going a little over two hours with the last hour being a return visit from Jake Wheat to tell us all about ‘Evil Dead, the Musical‘.

Whew, awesome show. Easily one of the funnest ones I’ve been a part of. If you missed this one, be sure to join us live next week. Monday night, 8:00PM eastern time.

Spooktalkular Episode 027

We have what could be considered for some a treat but yet for others Hell on Earth.  This week, we are doing a test run at a live show.  What we mean is we’re not going to edit this week’s show but instead, record it in one take.  I cringed hard and fought the urge to fire up Audacity and start cutting but we have to get used to it because when you’re live, there’s no retake.

With that said, a good episode.  We start off with a quick reminder.  If you’d like a chance to win a signed copy of one of M.R. Sellars first three books be sure to send an email to show at spooktalkular.com before the next Friday with the subject of “I Like Free Books”.  On next week’s show we’ll announce the winners.

We take a peek at the new Peter Jackson film ‘District 9′ due out on August 14th.  Cool trailer to listen to but even cooler to watch.  You can check it out on the movies home page.  Laura takes us into some Haunted Headlines for some interesting tidbits.  From there, we visit Classic Cinema for a look back at the 1980 film ‘The Fog‘.

Heading into television, we take a look at ‘Monster Quest’, a great episode of ‘Ghost Adventures’, ‘Ghost Hunters International’ and what will be our last visit to ‘The Listener’ since NBC has pulled the plug on it.

All in all, great episode.  Next week, interviews return.

This week’s Independent Music break is a great band out of Canada ‘The Wakening‘ with the cool song ‘Losing Control’!  As always, we are proud to feature Independent bands and we urge everyone to be sure to support Independent Music.

Thanks for listening and see ya next week!

Spooktalkular Episode 026

Wow, what an episode.  It’s our longest to date, clocking in at a little over two and a half hours.  Spooky news is no more.  Listen to see what the replacement is.  ;)  For Classic Cinema this week, we take a look back at the groundbreaking independent picture ‘The Blair Witch Project’ which hits it’s ten year anniversary this month.  It’s hard to believe that it has been ten years!
We have an incredible treat for television this week.  We start off with discussions on ‘The Listener’ and ‘Ghost Hunters International’ then we head into a cool episode of ‘Ghost Adventures’ who are in Savanah Georgia’s own Moon River Brewing Company.  We have a bonus little treat this week for ‘Ghost Adventures’, we are pleased to share an incredible interview that we did with Nick Groff from the team.  Nick actually gives us some insight into the episode.
That in itself would make for an awesome show but since we had missed the ‘Harper’s Island’ finale discussion last week, we dedicate over an hour alone to discussing the last three episodes including some audio and another awesome interview from ‘Harper’s Island’s’ own Sheriff Mills, the incredibly talented actor Jim Beaver.
We figured one week of music from ‘the Devil Himself’ wasn’t enough so we’re proud to feature them again this week with another incredible track named ‘Bulletproof’.  As always, be sure to support independent music!
So, do you see why it was such a long episode now?  ;)  Seriously, it was a blast so we hope you enjoy it!

Spooktalkular Episode 024

Laura and I had a blast recording this one.  We start out with a funny little bit dedicated to the great folks James and Troy over at backtofrankblack.com and the Millennium Group Sessions podcast.  During our brief discussion of their latest episode, we failed to mention that it contained an interview with Michael Buie in addition to M.R. Sellars.

We take a quick look at the Pseudopod Podcast that I discovered this week.  If you like horror, be sure to check it out.

This week is the premier of the new series “Warehouse 13″ and the return of the series “Ghost Hunters: International” for another season.  We also talk about the SciFi channels name change to Syfy.  Yea, I know, I misspelled it during the show.  Let’s just say that we think the name change sucks no matter how it is spelled.

Forums are back online and getting used.  Check them out at http://forums.spooktalkular.com and get in on the discussions.  Be sure to introduce yourself and let’s get the forums active.  We’re getting ready to bring up a new area of the site.  Laura’s decided to start a blog so look for that soon!

We’re still working on getting stuff together for the Mothman Festival on September 19th and 20th.  We’re going to build a teardrop camper to take up with us this year.

Our independent music break this week features the band Early April and thier song “When the Sky Falls” from their freely availible album.  Check out their homepage and download a copy today.

Whew, that’s a lot but there is still lots more to go.  When we return from the break, we give details on how you can win a signed copy of one of M.R. Sellars first three books.  No cheating, you’ve got to listen for details.

Classic Cinema this week covers the 1987 hit horror film “Hellraiser” that brought us Pinhead. TV wasn’t too kind this week as it was a little thin.  Our discussions were limited to “The Listener” and “Ghost Adventures”.

Finally as a treat, hang around after the outro runs and listen to bloopers that we caused while trying to get the M.R. Sellars giveaway recorded right.  It really was a blast.

Spooktalkular Episode 023

We’ve got a little change this episode, we don’t have an interview.  What we do have are discussions on two episodes of “MonsterQuest”, “Ghost Adventures” and a very spirited discussion on the last two episodes of “Harper’s Island”.  This week we take a look at the 1960 film “Psycho” in Classic Cinema.  If you listened to last weeks episode, you’ll know why.  ;)

During our Independent Music Break, we listen to “Century’s Out” from the band that James McLean from backtofrankblack.com was once a part of.

The fabulous writer M.R. “Murv” Sellars was good enough to send us some signed copies of his first three books.  Listen next week for details on how you can make one of them yours.

Spooktalkular Episode 022

Well, after a short delay, and quite a production fight, Episode 22 is finally out the door.  We think it’s worth the wait.  It clocks in at two hours but it’s a packed full two hours.  We start off with our paranormal entertainment news.  From there, we hop on into Classic Cinema with this weeks pick of “Phantasm” from some thirty years ago.
I introduced Laura to a new (to her) podcast this week.  Check out the Anything Ghost podcast over at www.anythingghost.com.  Two other must-have podcasts are the Millennium Group Sessions with Troy and Jim.  You can find them over at www.backtofrankblack.com and click on Podcast.  As always, we thank our good friends over at Ghostly Talk.  You can check them out over at www.ghostlytalk.com for more info.

This week, during our Independent Music break, we feature the band Ground Mower with the incredible song “Hide”.  Be sure to head over to www.groundmower.com and support independent music.  Remember, independent music is the music that’s not sueing it’s listeners.
After the break, we talk TV.  This week’s lineup consists of “The Listener”, “MonsterQuest” and an awesome episode of “Ghost Adventures”.  We finish up the first hour with a discussion of episode 9 “Seep” of “Harper’s Island” complete with show audio clips.  Only four more episodes of “Harper’s Island” to go.  We’re gonna miss it.

The last hour is dedicated to our interview with the incredible paranormal author M.R. “Murv” Sellars.  I can’t remember the last time that we’ve laughed that much in an hour.  He’s a blast.  We discuss a wide range of topics including his awesome series of books in the continuing saga that is The Rowan Gant Investigations.  Stay tuned for a chance to win some cool RGI books courtesy of Murv himself.  ;)   Be sure to head over to www.mrsellars.com to learn more about the Rowan Gant Investigations and Murv.  While you’re over there, check out his blog and add him to your twitter.

Following Troy’s (Millennium Group Sessions, www.backtofrankblack.com) suggestion from a few weeks ago, we’ve been watching “Supernatural” in an effort to get caught up during the break.

Hope you like this episode.  It’s a great one!

Spooktalkular Episode 021

We’ve got a great show lined up.  We start off with a little paranormal news, then, we have our first independent music break.  This week’s band is Early April and the song is “Through the eyes of her”  It’s the title track off of their album that’s available as a free download from thier website.  Be sure to check out http://www.earlyapril.com and grab a copy.

When we come back from the break, we talk some TV and we introduce a new segment, Classic Cinema where we discuss the 1987 movie “Near Dark”.  If you have a favorite classic movie that you’d like to hear us discuss drop us a note.

Rounding out the show, we have a real treat.  Bill Birnes joins us from “UFO Hunters” and the “UFO Magazine” and sits down to talk UFOs, “UFO Hunters” and we even talk conspiracy.  It’s really a great interview.  Be sure to head over to the “UFO Magazine” homepage and sign the petition to keep UFO Hunters on the air for next season and many more to come!

The Listener

“The Listener” centers on Toby Logan, a 25-year-old paramedic who has a big secret — he’s a telepath. Until now, Toby kept his ability hidden, exploring its possibilities only with his longtime mentor and confidant, Dr. Ray Mercer. While his professional life is in check, Toby’s personal life could use its own rescue. And with the help of Detective Charlie Marks and his E.R. doctor/ex-girlfriend Olivia Fawcett, Toby realizes his gift can help others.

Emotional Rescue – After saving a childhood friend from a burning building, Toby tracks down an arsonist whom he believes might be responsible for a series of fires in the city.

MonsterQuest

Flying Monsters – A deep trek into the jungles of Papua New Guinea which could be hiding a flying creature local villagers call the “Demon Flyer,” whose description is very similar to of the pterosaur of prehistoric origin.

Ghost Adventures

Preston Castle – For the second season opener, the “Ghost Adventures” crew head to California to spend the night in the Preston Castle

Harper’s Island

Gurgle – With Madison gone missing, Abby, Henry, Trish, Chloe, Cal, Jimmy, Sully, Shea, Katherine, Danny, Beth and Maggie stay behind to look for her, missing their chance to get off the island. Meanwhile, Sheriff Mills meets an old friend from the past, J.D. escapes from jail, and three more deaths occur.

Near Dark

A mid-western farm boy reluctantly becomes a member of the undead when a girl he meets turns out to be part of a band of southern vampires who roam the highways in stolen cars. Part of his initiation includes a bloody assault on a hick bar.
