Spooktalkular Episode 026

Wow, what an episode.  It’s our longest to date, clocking in at a little over two and a half hours.  Spooky news is no more.  Listen to see what the replacement is.  ;)  For Classic Cinema this week, we take a look back at the groundbreaking independent picture ‘The Blair Witch Project’ which hits it’s ten year anniversary this month.  It’s hard to believe that it has been ten years!
We have an incredible treat for television this week.  We start off with discussions on ‘The Listener’ and ‘Ghost Hunters International’ then we head into a cool episode of ‘Ghost Adventures’ who are in Savanah Georgia’s own Moon River Brewing Company.  We have a bonus little treat this week for ‘Ghost Adventures’, we are pleased to share an incredible interview that we did with Nick Groff from the team.  Nick actually gives us some insight into the episode.
That in itself would make for an awesome show but since we had missed the ‘Harper’s Island’ finale discussion last week, we dedicate over an hour alone to discussing the last three episodes including some audio and another awesome interview from ‘Harper’s Island’s’ own Sheriff Mills, the incredibly talented actor Jim Beaver.
We figured one week of music from ‘the Devil Himself’ wasn’t enough so we’re proud to feature them again this week with another incredible track named ‘Bulletproof’.  As always, be sure to support independent music!
So, do you see why it was such a long episode now?  ;)  Seriously, it was a blast so we hope you enjoy it!

Spooktalkular Episode 025

Well, Episode 25 is quite a bit delayed but on next weeks show, you will find out why AND, you will agree it was well worth the delay.  This week though, Spooktalkular turns one year old and we are celebrating.  We reflect on the first year and hop in the wayback machine to visit the very first show.  Have we ever changed….

As part of our reflection, we thank a great deal of the fine folks who have helped us over the past year.  We have had so much help, it’s possible that we missed some people.  If we missed you, we assure you it wasn’t intentional.  The most important people to Spooktalkular are the incredible listeners.  We thank you for your time, we know it’s valuable so the fact you give up your time to listen to what we do touches us greatly every week.  Thank you!

We do briefly cover new shows this week from ‘MonsterQuest’, ‘Ghost Adventures’ and ‘The Listener’.  It was also the season two premier of ‘Ghost Hunters International’ so we give them a quick visit as well.

This weeks Independent Music Break features a band out of Santa Cruz, California named the Devil Himself.  Head over to http://www.myspace.com/devilhimselfmusic and check them out!  The song is ‘Deserted’ and it rocks!

You often hear us talk about the fine group of people that are behind the effort to have a ‘Millennium’ movie made.  James and Troy from backtofrankblack.com and the ‘Millennium Group Sessions’ podcast stop by to wish us Happy Birthday.  It’s really a great time.

Okay, I can’t make you wait until next week.  I’m just not that mean.  The reason for the delay was a couple of last minute interviews that will be in next weeks show.  To tie in with our ‘Harper’s Island’ wrap up next week, we have a special treat.  Jim Beaver who played Sheriff Charlie Mills was great enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to chat with us.  Now, if that’s not enough, we will also have an great interview from one of the Travel Channel’s hosts and investigators of ‘Ghost Adventures’, the incredible Nick Groff.  See, I told you that you’d agree that the delay was worth it.

Spooktalkular Episode 024

Laura and I had a blast recording this one.  We start out with a funny little bit dedicated to the great folks James and Troy over at backtofrankblack.com and the Millennium Group Sessions podcast.  During our brief discussion of their latest episode, we failed to mention that it contained an interview with Michael Buie in addition to M.R. Sellars.

We take a quick look at the Pseudopod Podcast that I discovered this week.  If you like horror, be sure to check it out.

This week is the premier of the new series “Warehouse 13″ and the return of the series “Ghost Hunters: International” for another season.  We also talk about the SciFi channels name change to Syfy.  Yea, I know, I misspelled it during the show.  Let’s just say that we think the name change sucks no matter how it is spelled.

Forums are back online and getting used.  Check them out at http://forums.spooktalkular.com and get in on the discussions.  Be sure to introduce yourself and let’s get the forums active.  We’re getting ready to bring up a new area of the site.  Laura’s decided to start a blog so look for that soon!

We’re still working on getting stuff together for the Mothman Festival on September 19th and 20th.  We’re going to build a teardrop camper to take up with us this year.

Our independent music break this week features the band Early April and thier song “When the Sky Falls” from their freely availible album.  Check out their homepage and download a copy today.

Whew, that’s a lot but there is still lots more to go.  When we return from the break, we give details on how you can win a signed copy of one of M.R. Sellars first three books.  No cheating, you’ve got to listen for details.

Classic Cinema this week covers the 1987 hit horror film “Hellraiser” that brought us Pinhead. TV wasn’t too kind this week as it was a little thin.  Our discussions were limited to “The Listener” and “Ghost Adventures”.

Finally as a treat, hang around after the outro runs and listen to bloopers that we caused while trying to get the M.R. Sellars giveaway recorded right.  It really was a blast.

Spooktalkular Episode 023

We’ve got a little change this episode, we don’t have an interview.  What we do have are discussions on two episodes of “MonsterQuest”, “Ghost Adventures” and a very spirited discussion on the last two episodes of “Harper’s Island”.  This week we take a look at the 1960 film “Psycho” in Classic Cinema.  If you listened to last weeks episode, you’ll know why.  ;)

During our Independent Music Break, we listen to “Century’s Out” from the band that James McLean from backtofrankblack.com was once a part of.

The fabulous writer M.R. “Murv” Sellars was good enough to send us some signed copies of his first three books.  Listen next week for details on how you can make one of them yours.

Spooktalkular Episode 017

I have to admit, this is probably one of the best shows that we’ve done so far.  After we give away an Hitchcock DVD, we start out with a great interview with Troy and Jim from over at backtofrankblack.com.  We had a blast and the audio quality is incredible.

After the interview, we hop on into television.  We check in with “Paranormal State”, “Ghost Hunters”, “Ghost Wisperer” and finish up with a good discussion of “Harper’s Island” including what we’re going to send CBS to get “Harper’s Island” back if they cancel it.  Laura promises to get the latest double episode of “Medium” watched so we can talk about it next week.  Sadly, we lost the latest “Monster Quest” before we got a chance to watch it.  If anyone has the Mysterious Ape Island episode of “Monster Quest”, let us know.  We’d love to see it.

Be sure to check out the Death Chart that we mention in the show for Harper’s Island.  It helps you keep track of the main players.

Spooktalkular Episode 014

Spooktalkular episode 14 is history.  Pretty cool episode.  It was a blast to do.  We introduce the first annual Spooktalkular Celebrity Ghost Hunt.  Highly recommended to listen, it’s a blast.  We discuss the usual television.  “Ghost Hunters”, “Paranormal State”, “UFO Hunters”, “Most Haunted” and “Ghost Whisperer”.  We share the news that “Ghost Whisperer” has been renewed for a fifth season.  “Ghost Hunters” is doing another spin-off that’s touted as a “College Edition”.  Sounds like it’s an attempted at doing a Sci-Fi rip-off of “Paranormal State”.

Then, we move on to a serious note.  Jake Wheat from Street Blast Media contact us last week about being involved in a charity that he’s close to.  He has made the “Waverly Hills: The Audio Experience” CD available with 100% of the proceeds going to Stomp Out Cancer, a charity that helps battle Ewing’s Sarcoma.  Incredible CD and an increible cause.  We urge every listener to head over to iTunes and grab a copy today.  If you do, let us know what you think about the CD.  We loved it.

Before we head out, we quickly check in on our friends over at backtofrankblack.com.

Spooktalkular Episode 013

We just finished episode 13.  Pretty good episode considering that we hadn’t done one in a while.  We start off talking about the new Friday the 13th movie.  I gave it about a 3 ghosts and Laura gave it 2.  While on the topic of movies, we did another giveaway.  You’ll have to listen for details.

Pretty packed show for TV.  We discuss two episodes of “UFO Hunters” and have a discussion on the Pre-Columbian Airplane artifacts that were discussed on the show.  You’ll find more info about the artifacts at http://s8int.com/phile/page54.html and http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/esp_aviones_precolom02.htm with the last one being my favorite.

We had a quick discussion of the most recent “Paranormal State” episode “The Repossession: Return of 6″.  Probably one of the best “Paranormal State” episodes we’ve seen so far.  We follow that up with quick discussions on “Monster Quest: Monster Close Encounters” and “Most Haunted”.

We round out the hour (and even run over a bit) with “Ghost Hunters” and the Edith Warton Estate episode.  From there, we discuss the recent video brought to our attention by MovieDan.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaptYGlMdZc&feature=email for details.  SciFake has a response to the drama in the video at http://scifake.com/?p=613 and http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=158243618&blogId=478297190 for details.

We have a winner!!!

Earlier today, we received an email with the answer to the Episode 12 contest question.  The question was, what movie was released in 1991 staring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.  The hint was the word cannibalism.  The correct answer was “The Silence of the Lambs“.  Tune in to Episode 13 to find out who the lucky winner is and for another contest!

Thanks for listening.

Spooktalkular Episode 012

Whew, it’s been a while but hopefully, it’s worth they wait.  We start off discussing some great emails that we recently received.  Laura takes the lead on this show and tells about several movies that she’s seen recently.  She does quick reviews of “Saw 5“, “Hit and Run“, “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans“, “My Bloody Valentine” and finally the classic, “Road Games“.

After that, we move to TV where Laura catches us up on “Ghost Whisperer” and “Paranormal State” plus we briefly discuss a new show “Paranormal Cops”.  We also discuss our latest giveaway so hopefully we’ll get some response on this one.  ;)

As promised, here’s the link to the Mr. Payne Podcast!  It’s one of our favorite Lost Podcasts out there.  Give him a shot.

We’ll try to kick out another show this coming weekend.  This should put us a little better on track since after this one, we will be caught up.  We’ll take a quick look at the movie Mirrors and the new move based on “A Haunting”.  Laura will finish catching us up on “Most Haunted”, “Paranormal State” and “Ghost Hunters International”.  Also, we’ll check and see if we have a winner yet for the contest.

Spooktalkular Episode 011

Spooktalkular 2009 episode 11 is finished.  We took a little time off because of the holidays and sickness but we’re back.  “Ghost Hunters” and “Estate of Panic” both finished up seasons while we were off.  We discuss a recent comment on the blog about the “Ghost Hunters” fraud accusation video.  The comment was allegedly by a representative of the United States Air Force but we are unable to authenticate it so it is presented as unauthenticated.  We talk briefly about “Estate of Panic” and the last couple of challenges on it this season.

From there, we move on to “Ghost Whisperer” to discuss the whole Sim or Jam thing (Sam/Jim).  “Most Haunted” has put out some new shows.  They’ve been to the Stanley Hotel, Waverly Hills and the West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia.  The last two of those are only about three hours or so from us.

We’ve checked out some movies while we’ve been off the air.  “X Files – I Want to Believe” is reviewed first by Laura (Frank didn’t watch it).  Frank and Laura discuss “Joyride 2″ and “Rest Stop 2″ and finish up with “Zombie Diaries”.  Laura watched a documentary on the Phoenix Lights and she talks a little about it.  Frank fell asleep during the documentary.

We end the show with a new giveaway for the first X Files movie.  You have to listen for the details.  ;)   Hope you enjoy.  Be sure to email show@spooktalkular.com or call 702-552-9902 and leave a comment for the show.  Let us know if you like it or if there is something we missed or shoot, could we do something better.
