Spooktalkular Episode 023

We’ve got a little change this episode, we don’t have an interview.  What we do have are discussions on two episodes of “MonsterQuest”, “Ghost Adventures” and a very spirited discussion on the last two episodes of “Harper’s Island”.  This week we take a look at the 1960 film “Psycho” in Classic Cinema.  If you listened to last weeks episode, you’ll know why.  ;)

During our Independent Music Break, we listen to “Century’s Out” from the band that James McLean from backtofrankblack.com was once a part of.

The fabulous writer M.R. “Murv” Sellars was good enough to send us some signed copies of his first three books.  Listen next week for details on how you can make one of them yours.

Spooktalkular Episode 022

Well, after a short delay, and quite a production fight, Episode 22 is finally out the door.  We think it’s worth the wait.  It clocks in at two hours but it’s a packed full two hours.  We start off with our paranormal entertainment news.  From there, we hop on into Classic Cinema with this weeks pick of “Phantasm” from some thirty years ago.
I introduced Laura to a new (to her) podcast this week.  Check out the Anything Ghost podcast over at www.anythingghost.com.  Two other must-have podcasts are the Millennium Group Sessions with Troy and Jim.  You can find them over at www.backtofrankblack.com and click on Podcast.  As always, we thank our good friends over at Ghostly Talk.  You can check them out over at www.ghostlytalk.com for more info.

This week, during our Independent Music break, we feature the band Ground Mower with the incredible song “Hide”.  Be sure to head over to www.groundmower.com and support independent music.  Remember, independent music is the music that’s not sueing it’s listeners.
After the break, we talk TV.  This week’s lineup consists of “The Listener”, “MonsterQuest” and an awesome episode of “Ghost Adventures”.  We finish up the first hour with a discussion of episode 9 “Seep” of “Harper’s Island” complete with show audio clips.  Only four more episodes of “Harper’s Island” to go.  We’re gonna miss it.

The last hour is dedicated to our interview with the incredible paranormal author M.R. “Murv” Sellars.  I can’t remember the last time that we’ve laughed that much in an hour.  He’s a blast.  We discuss a wide range of topics including his awesome series of books in the continuing saga that is The Rowan Gant Investigations.  Stay tuned for a chance to win some cool RGI books courtesy of Murv himself.  ;)   Be sure to head over to www.mrsellars.com to learn more about the Rowan Gant Investigations and Murv.  While you’re over there, check out his blog and add him to your twitter.

Following Troy’s (Millennium Group Sessions, www.backtofrankblack.com) suggestion from a few weeks ago, we’ve been watching “Supernatural” in an effort to get caught up during the break.

Hope you like this episode.  It’s a great one!

Spooktalkular Episode 021

We’ve got a great show lined up.  We start off with a little paranormal news, then, we have our first independent music break.  This week’s band is Early April and the song is “Through the eyes of her”  It’s the title track off of their album that’s available as a free download from thier website.  Be sure to check out http://www.earlyapril.com and grab a copy.

When we come back from the break, we talk some TV and we introduce a new segment, Classic Cinema where we discuss the 1987 movie “Near Dark”.  If you have a favorite classic movie that you’d like to hear us discuss drop us a note.

Rounding out the show, we have a real treat.  Bill Birnes joins us from “UFO Hunters” and the “UFO Magazine” and sits down to talk UFOs, “UFO Hunters” and we even talk conspiracy.  It’s really a great interview.  Be sure to head over to the “UFO Magazine” homepage and sign the petition to keep UFO Hunters on the air for next season and many more to come!

Spooktalkular Episode 020

Finally, we’re out of the teens. Sure it’s delayed by a couple of days but it should be worth the wait. In addition to the usual television and paranormal news, we check out the Sam Raimi film “Drag Me to Hell” that opened last weekend. Finally, we round out the show with an awesome interview from “Methodic” writer and director Chris R. Notarile. If you’d like to grab one of the screener copies of “Methodic” that Chris mentions, and we highly recommend it, check out http://methodic.blinky-productions.com. Be sure to get your nominees and categories in for the paranormal awards show we’re planning in July.

Spooktalkular Episode 019

Sorry for the delay but we think it’s worth it. The holiday and just an inability to knock this thing out Tuesday really delayed us a bit. Even with the wait, this episode came out awesome!

First off, we talk about some of the paranormal news for the week. Here’s the summaries and the links.

NBC has canceled the psychic drama Medium. Fear not though, CBS in what could be an awesome stratgic move has picked it up and added it to the Friday night lineup. It will air between “Ghost Whisperer” and “Numb3rs” for a Psychic Friday of sorts. The only thing that could have made it better is including Harper’s Island. http://www.thedailynewsonline.com/articles/2009/05/24/entertainment/doc4a19a0b18c984111500068.txt

Our favorite two plumbers are heading back to Buffalo, New York for a fan ghost hunt of the Central Terminal. One fan reported paying 250.00 in order to ghost hunt with the professionals. And to think, she could have ghost hunted with Laura and Frank for a lot less. http://www.wkbw.com/news/local/45883312.html

Even with a rerun, CBS nails Friday night. “Ghost Whisperer” grabbed nearly 6 million viewers. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/05/23/friday-ratings-cbs-wins-how-might-dollhouse-have-done/19355 However, CBS didn’t fair as well Saturday night. ABC picked up the win with a game. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/05/24/saturday-ratings-lakers-vs-nuggets-wins-easily/19363

“Ghost Whisperer” season one cast member Aisha Tyler is about to take on a new talk show role. She’ll be hosting the ABC show “The Aisha Tyler Show” where viewers can interact with her by Twitter and Facebook. Shoot, the podcast community has been doing that from the beginning. http://www.buddytv.com/articles/ghost-whisperer/former-ghost-whisper-star-aish-28899.aspx

Fort Mifflin appears to be back on sound financial footing. The fort was the scene of a horrible bombardment in 1777 during the Revolutionary War but the true battle lately had been paying the bills. Several in the paranormal community had taken up the cause and as of this article, they are in good shape. The director credits the paranormal investigations and Boy Scout overnights with the successful refilling of the coffers. http://www.philly.com/inquirer/entertainment/20090522_Fort_Mifflin_s_victory_over_money_troubles.html

Then we head into a great discussion from Laura on “Medium” and from there, a hillarious discussion of the season finale of “Paranormal State”. We finally get the missing “MonsterQuest” episode about the “Mysterious Ape Island”. Next, we head into “UFO Hunters” and wrap the show up with a really in-depth discussion of the latest “Harper’s Island”. It’s worth mentioning that we found a cool website for Harper’s Island. Be sure to check out www.harpersisland.tv for details.

Be sure to let us know your categories and nominees for the Spooktalkular listener choice awards.

Spooktalkular Episode 018

Spooktalkular Episode 18 is history.  Even with a sick Laura, we manage to get another episode of the show out.  This one has been the toughest episode to date to edit and prep for release.  In addition to Laura not feeling well, we had technical difficulties which caused some of the audio to be corupted.

Before we get rolling, we have some thanks to shout out.  Be sure to check out www.para-x.com.  Dave and Tom run a first class network over there with over 50 paranormal shows.  You’ll find something you like at para-x.com.  Also, our friends over at www.backtofrankblack.com have launched an incredible podcast named “Millennium Group Sessions”.  The latest episode has a cool interview with Marshall Bell who played the Judge in the episode of the same title.  Be sure to check them out and watch the site for news.

You’re probably wondering what you can expect from this one.  Well, let me tell you.  We watched some movies.  We start out with an INCREDIBLE independent project that you’ve heard us mention before named “Methodic“.  With it, a new horror genre is created.  Meet the basher flick.  Or, should we say, “Meat the basher flick”?  After that, we talk about “The Uninvited”.

On to TV talk.  Since we didn’t do the show last week, we have two weeks worth of shows to discuss.  That leaves us with two episodes each of “Monster Quest”, “Paranormal State”, “UFO Hunters” and “Ghost Whisperer”.  Due to a schedule change *again* over at CBS, we only have one episode of “Harper’s Island” but wow, what an episode it was.

Here’s the episodes we talk about:

Monster Quest

Gigantic Killer Fish II – A look at an 1895 fish attack off the coast of Florida by a Goliath grouper, a massive fish that can weigh in at 1,500 lbs and a recent attack that may be evidence these dangerous fish are returning – then off to the freshwater lakes of Minnesota where attacks by the no less aggressive Muskie could be on the rise.

Isle of the Lost Tiger – A look at over 350 reports from the Australian island of Tasmania that claim a vicious predator, once thought to have hunted to extinction, has made a comeback – the Tasmanian Tiger, and how an Australian biologist is using preserved DNA of the animal in hopes of cloning a living specimen.

Ghost Whisperer

Endless Love -Melinda has to figure out how to plan for her wedding and help a young lady get vampires to leave her alone.

The Book of Changes – Melinda hopes she can protect her baby after a ghost visits her. Season Finale

Paranormal State

Three Like Mine – Heather, Matt and their three kids are being harassed nightly by an entity in their Indiana home. Heather has been shaken by a force that says, “Hey” –  as if trying to get her attention — followed by the phrase, “Three to nine.” Psychic medium Michelle Belanger helps decipher a message that may be connected to the original property owners. Meanwhile Ryan investigates one of the client’s personal connection to the paranormal.

Dead and Back – Viki suffered a brain aneurism that left her on the brink of death. She fears the experience may have opened her up to unwanted spirits in her Alabama home. When psychic/medium Chip Coffey feels a connection to a male entity with familial ties, the case takes an emotional and creepy turn. PRS also experiments with new magnetic-pulse technology.

UFO Hunters

UFO Relics – Investigating so-called “trace cases,” the team studies supposed physical evidence left behind after various UFO sightings, from a strange glass-like rock found in Poland, to an odd piece of metal a Missouri man claims to have found after it was dropped from a UFO.

Underwater Area 51 – The investigators monitor the activity of the AUTEC (Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center), which is used by the U.S. Navy for underwater research, but the increasing reports of UFO and USO activity surrounding the facility have lead to rumors the base is testing alien technology.

Harper’s Island

Thwak – Abby uncovers a secret obsession as the wedding rehearsal takes an unexpected turn.
