Spooktalkular Season 3 Episode 09 (E72)

Welcome to Spooktalkular 2011.  We were hoping to have Brian Harnois on this week but in a Spooktalkular First, he was a no-show.  Here’s the Twitter conversation where I thought we had it set up.

@BrianHarnois
You know what I love… I love when someone will meet you at a con or lecture and try to be your best friend because you are on a TV show
@BrianHarnois
then…when they get on a show themselves, they totally ignore and don’t even contact you even to say hi
@BrianHarnois Brian Harnois
considering that the show they are on wouldn’t even be on the air if it wasn’t in part of said persons help. RUDE!!!

@spooktalkfrank ok

So who knows….  Still a fun show.  We talked about the Planet Macabre and Creepture Feature Horror Show podcasts.  We then headed into a discussion about the dead birds that have been happening around the world.  After that, what would be fitting for Classic Cinema but the Alfred Hitchcock thriller “The Birds”.  During our discussion, we also talked about Jaws and the Jaws game from the 70′s.  A quick search turned up this link with a picture of the game.  http://gedblog.com/2009/06/01/you-know-for-kids-2/

Our Independent Music Break featured the song ‘Knots’ by a cool band out of Florida named Seven Years Past.  Great sound with a strong female lead.  Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/sevenyearspastfl or follow them on twitter at https://twitter.com/#!/sypband

We had some audio problems with the live feed at the beginning of the show.  At the suggestion of everyone in the chat room, we left it all in.  ;)  Enjoy!

Spooktalkular Season 3 Episode 06 (E69)

As you can see, we’ve change our naming scheme a little.  In addition to the overall episode number, we’re breaking it down by season and episode as well.  Tonight’s episode was a fun one.  We visit a little Classic Cinema with a ride on the 1980 Movie ‘Death Ship‘ provided by our good friend Richard.  Laura and I both gave it a 3 and a half Pottsie rating.

During our Independent Music Break, we featured more music from the album “Stomp Out Cancer Presents: Musicians Fight Ewing’s Sarcoma, Vol. 2 Hope” with Katrina Carlson’s ‘Count On Me’.  Just a reminder that all proceeds from the album are donated to fight to cure Ewing’s Sarcoma.

After break, we jump into a discussion of the first two episodes of the AMC Original Series ‘The Walking Dead’.  We really liked the show.  It shows great promise and we can’t wait to see where the remaining four episodes of season one go.

Spooktalkular Episode 066

***** WARNING *****  Please pay attention to the graphic content warning at the beginning of the show.  This is not one of our kinder/gentler shows so please consider yourself warned.  Grab the headphones as you see fit.

Ustream was toast tonight so our apologies to everyone who had joined us for the live show.  I will be looking for streaming hosts this week.  Well, the 2010 9th Annual Mothman Festival is finished and we had a blast (with one exception).  Join us as we recap the good, the bad and the ugly.  Our hope is that after this show, we’ll be invited back to host again because, all things said, we did have fun and love the festival.

Our Classic Cinema tonight featured the movie “Fire In the Sky” based on the true story of Travis Walton.  Check it out, we’re sure you’ll like it.

The Independent Music break featured more sounds from the album Stomp Out Cancer: Musician’s Fight Ewing’s Sarcoma Presents – HOPE.  Tonight’s song was by The Sheds and is titled “Only Way Out Is Through”. It was written for a friend of the band that was going through chemo.

It was a little harsher show tonight than normal but, not as bad as if we had done one last Sunday night.  We hope you enjoy.

I did change the bitrate on this one to try to make it a bit smaller.  Normally we encode at 64bits.  Tonight’s show was encoded at 32.  Let me know if it was too low of a bitrate.

Spooktalkular Episode 065

Wow, 65 of these crazy things  now.  Who would have ever thought it?  We spend the first part of the show talking about the Mothman Festival which we will be attending next weekend.  We briefly talk about the new season of Ghost Hunters and Frank’s new approach to Ghost Hunting.  This was prompted by a podcast with Jeff Belanger.  Jeff also hosts a podcast of his own called 30 Odd Minutes.

After the break, we talk about the parody Taintlight.  Funny flick making fun of everyone’s favorite vamp series.  Free on Netflix streaming, think ‘Vampires Suck’ without the budget.  For Classic Cinema this week, we take an early look at the 2002 movie ‘Below’.  Another great movie free on Netflix streaming.

Our Independent Music was from the album Stomp Out Cancer: Musician’s Fight Ewing’s Sarcoma Presents – HOPE.  The song was Heroes & Madmen:Emory.  Please support Independent Music and especially this album.  It really is for such a great cause.

Remember, no show next weekend but we’ll be back in two weeks with our Mothman Festival recap.

Spooktalkular Episode 064

Welcome back to season 3.  We kicked it off big time tonight.  We talked about our hosting the speaking forums for the 9th Annual Mothman Festival in the beautiful Point Pleasant, WV.  We sprinkled in a bit of spooky news and then topped the show off with a good bit of movies.  The movies we covered were Inception, Vampires Suck, The Last Exorcism and our Classic Cinema Event Horizon.

For a treat, we also talked about the film “Ghosts Don’t Exist” which is due to be released Tuesday the 7th.  We had some of the creative team from GDE on back in October so it was so incredible to get a sneak peek at the film which was so worth the wait.  Great film, great story, beautifully shot.  This isn’t an Independent Film, it’s an Independent Treat!  Grab a copy today, pre-order at Amazon or pick it up at Best Buy on Tuesday.  You won’t be disappointed.

From the WAY TOO MUCH department, a warning, parts of this episode aren’t exactly safe for work.  And here’s why…  For Classic Cinema this week, we talk about the 1997 film Event Horizon staring Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill.  Let’s just say we went a little overboard on our discussion of Laurence’s Daughter’s newest film, “Montana Fishburne: An A-List Daughter Makes her XXX Debut“.  Sorry Laurence.  We still love ya man, and as a father myself, I can feel for you.  With that said, it should in no way take anything away from “Event Horizon”.

Our Independent Music break this week was from the Stomp Out Cancer Volume 2 CD: Hope.  Public Symphony (London): Stronger.

Spooktalkular Episode 062

Had an absolute amazing time doing the show tonight.  We didn’t have any guests but we still had plenty of gab going on.  We start off by discussing our plans for when we buy the Amityville Horror House which recently went on sale.  We just need 1.5 million of our incredible listeners to send us a buck each and we can make it a reality.  ;)  We also briefly talk about a really cool old audio recording about Spiricom that we found in the 2005 archives of Ghostly Talk.  We also checked out the remake of the Wolfman this weekend and we both loved it.

Believe it or not, Ghost Hunters Academy is back.  Well, we being the fans we are take a run through of the new cadets.  Frank is thinking about pitching a new similar series but instead of Steve or Tango, Gordon Ramsay is the lead.  It would be great.  While we’re in the angry mood, we also tear into Happy Town.  How does a show with this much potential end up in such a shape?

Tonight’s Independent Music Break was from the CD “Stomp Out Cancer Volume 2: Hope” which you can find on iTunes.  We played the song ‘Emory’ by Heros and Madmen.  Remember, all proceeds from all the CDs benefit Ewing’s Sarcoma research.

A couple of special thanks to some great friends of the show.  Jake Wheat has updated our website and, Jake, I promise I’ll get the new version online soon.  ;)  And, to Mark Hayden.  Thanks, as always for the incredible banners you do for us.

Spooktalkular Episode 057

We were joined tonight by our great friend Jake Wheat.  Jake tells us all about the CD “Stomp Out Cancer Volume 2: Hope” which all proceeds benefit Stomp Out Cancer and Ewing’s Sarcoma Research.  You will be hearing songs from the CD featured on our Independent Music Breaks over the next few months.  While Jake was here, we also talked about his other project, ‘The Waverly Hills Sanatorium Audio Experience” and “Stomp Out Cancer: Volume 1“.  It was an incredible hour and we hated for it to be over.  Actually, when we stopped recording, we kept talking for quite a while afterwards. ;)

Before Jake joined us, we talked about the new ABC series ‘Happy Town‘ which we plan on covering when it starts up on April 30th.  You can watch the first 14 minutes on ABC’s site.  It looks GREAT!!!  We can’t wait.  We’re planning to make it our guilty pleasure this year. ;)

As we mentioned, tonight’s Independent Music Breaks were from the CD “Stomp Out Cancer Volume 2: Hope” which you can find on iTunes.  We played the songs ‘Stronger’ by Public Symphony and ‘Emory’ by Heros and Madmen.  Remember, all proceeds from all the CDs benefit Ewing’s Sarcoma research.

Thanks for listening!

Spooktalkular Episode 050

Mountain State Spirit Seeker Society

The big 5 0 is here and we had a fun time.  We talk about the incredible web series ParaAbnormal.  Check them out and recommend them to a friend today.  Due to popular response, we’re going to move to Sunday nights starting February 21st at 6:00PM Eastern.  We’re going to take next week off and do one more Monday night show on the 15th.

Tonight we were joined by the Mountain State Spirit Seeker Society to tell us a little about their group and some of the work they’ve been doing.  We’ve been trying to get these guys on for quite a while so it was great to finally get everyone together.  Great half hour with them.  Be sure to check out their website.

Our Independent Music Break featured ‘X My Eyes’ from The Russian Brides.  Remember to support independent music!

Spooktalkular Episode 049

Kyle Lovern

We started out talking a little about an interesting comment we received from one of our listeners Graham, about episode 46.  Between time 23:05 amd 23:09, Graham noticed a womans voice that doesn’t sound like Laura’s.  I’ll try to isolate it and we’ll play it during the next show.  We also talk about possibly moving the show to Sunday night.  Be sure to let us know what you think about what time we should do the show.

Tonight we were joined by Kyle Lovern, author of  the books, “Appalachian Case Study: UFO Sightings, Alien Encounters and Unexplained Phenomena, volumes 1 and volume 2“  to talk a little local UFO.  Once again, we ran short on time but Kyle was good enough to agree to come back and join us again.

Our Independent Music Break featured the song ‘X My Eyes’ from the Oregon group the Russian Brides.  Always support Independent Media!

Special Thanks again to our guest Kyle Lovern and to all of our listeners!

Spooktalkular Episode 045

Spooktalkular returns with a little edgier show than normal.  No, this isn’t going to be the norm, we just went where the material led us tonight.
Frank takes a rant out on Ghost Hunters Academy.  We discuss ‘The Haunted’, ‘Psychic Kids’, and a Jack the Ripper special on the Discovery Channel.  We also have a lengthy discussion on a recent ‘Paranormal State’ episode.  Our independent music break featured ‘Chaos Engine’ by TenPenny Joke
All in all, a great, fun show.  It’s good to be back!
